The 50th Infantry (Defender) Batallion, 5th Infantry (Star) Division Philippine Army sought the office’s assistance for the conduct of Livelihood Skills Training for the CADRE AND CAFGU Active Auxilliary (CAA) of the Philippine Army on June 27, 2024 at Headquarters, Alpha Company, Lidlidda, Ilocos Sur.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources- Regional Fisheries Office 1 through the Provincial Fisheries Office(PFO)- Ilocos Sur personnel, Gilbert Pulido, served as learning service provider and guest during the training. Among the presented programs and projects of the bureau include fish culture, fingerlings distributions and fisheries scholarship program.These programs could be availed by the CAA of the upland areas in the province of Ilocos Sur.
To further enhance the technical skills on fish culture of the CAA and to introduce science-based culture technology, Pulido also presented the grow-out culture technology of tilapia that include fishpond preparation, proper stocking and feeding management, monitoring of water parameters, and good aquaculture practices. The training aims to empower, impart new ideas, provide technical assistance on fish culture to the CAA Active Auxiliary, and to ensure sustainability of their livelihood.
This activity will also open the window to avail the services offered by BFAR such as livelihood programs for the affected fisherfolk by local communist armed conflict(LCAC). A total of 48 CAA from various barangays of LCAC affected municipalities of the province attended the activity.
