Indeed, the municipality of Tayug in Pangasinan took that โfirst stepโ as its FARMC was organized by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources- Regional Fisheries Office 1 on July 29-30, 2024.
Algerico C. Terrado, fisherfolk chairperson of the newly formed MFARMC said, โNakikita namin na malaking tulong ang pagbuo ng Municipal FARMC sa aming lugar upang malaman ng kapwa naming mga mangingisda na kailangan nating protektahan ang ating mga katubigan. Ito ay upang mapanatili ang aming pamumuhay, lalo na para sa aming mga nag-aalaga ng isda na mapataas pa ang produksyon. Lubos kaming nagpapasalamat sa BFAR sa pagbibigay ninyo sa amin ng kaalaman at pagtuturo sa amin ng mga batas sa pangingisda.โ
Prior to their organization, the council members were lectured on History and FARMC Landscape; FAO-196: Guidelines on the creation and implementation of FARMC; Fisheries Management, Policies and Governance; Fishery Law; and parliamentary procedure for effective meetings.
Furthermore, they also underwent workshops on Community โ Based Fisheries Analysis (SWOT) and preparation of a three-year Development Plan.
The BFAR-Central Office’s Information and Fisherfolk Coordination Unit(IFCU)- Fisherfolk-FARMC Coordination Office participated in this activity through Paolo Enrico M. Paquiz, who conducted benchmarking and presented the FARMC Budyong (Balitaan Ukol sa Dagat at mga katubigan, Yaman ng mga itO at Likas-Kayang PangaNGasiwa), an Information and Communication Technology and social media-based portal open for feedbacks of the local FARMCs to ensure their active participation in formulating national fisheries sector policies.
Behind the success of the council’s formation and induction of the newly elected officers and members of the MFARMC Tayug was the leadership of Hon. Mayor Tyrone D. Agabas, with the support of Sangguniang Bayan on Agriculture and Fisheries Committee Chair, Samuel N. Manzano; and assistance of the Provincial Fisheries Office of the Provincial Government of Pangasinan.
