The BFAR-Region 1 through the Fisheries Production Support and Services Division (FPSSD) together with the Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division (RFTFCD) and Provincial Fisheries Office-Pangasinan, successfully conducted the technical training on Bangus Fishcage farming for the Baybay Sur Fisherfolk Association (FA) beneficiaries in Sual, Pangasinan.
The technical training is Phase II of the training program conducted on December 11-12, 2024, under the Aquaculture and Mariculture Expansion and Invigoration Project (AMEIP), which aims to equip the FA with essential skills and knowledge to effectively manage and operate a Bangus (Milkfish) Fish Cage farm.
Chief-RFTFCD Atty. Girly G. Dela Peรฑa, delivered her message of support, stating that a strong foundation is what an organization needs and encouraged them to apply the knowledge acquired on financial literacy during the Phase I: Social Preparation training. She also inspired everyone, โWe learn from the young and seek wisdom from the oldโ, encouraging everyoneโs attention and understanding of the technical part of the training.
AMEIP Focal Henry Q. Canlas, provided an overview of the fisheries extension services and discussed BFAR Fisheries Office Order 553 Series of 2024, which outlines the implementing guidelines for AMEIP providing participants with enhanced comprehension governing aquaculture and mariculture activities.
BFAR1-Fishing Regulations Officer Chris B. Cantor, and Aquaculturist Argel F. Cacho, covered topics on Good Aquaculture Practices (GAqP), emphasizing sustainable and responsible aquaculture methods, and Basic Biology of Milkfish, Cage Culture, Management, and Reporting (Status and Terminal Report) ensuring participants are well-informed on technical aspects on the industry. An open forum then allowed participants to exchange their experiences and insights.

OIC-PFO Pangasinan and concurrent Bangus Focal Antonieta G. Evangelista, provided updates on recent technologies and the roadmap for the milkfish industry.
RD Rosario Segundina P. Gaerlan delivered an inspirational message followed by a hands-on session on fish cage net construction. Dir. Gaerlan expressed the agencyโs hope that the FA will be successful in managing the project provided to them.
In her closing remarks, Chief-FPSSD Remely B. Lachica, highlighted the project’s overall significance and benefits, expressing her hopes for its positive impact on the lives of the fisherfolks.
Also present in this activity were Municipal Agriculturist Florencia G. Guanzon, Municipal Councilor and concurrent Chairman on Fisheries, Maximo Millan, and Chairman of the Sangguniang Bayan in Agriculture, Gregorio Garcia, conveying their support during the activity.
