A collaborative financial literacy learning session was successfully conducted on July 9, 2025, by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) through the Provincial Fisheries Office โ Ilocos Norte.
โโThe session, with 100 registered fisherfolk participants from various coastal barangays of Laoag, aimed to equip them with essential knowledge on financial management and digital literacy. Key topics include familiarization with the Philippine currency, an introduction to the polymer banknote series, and digital financial literacy.
โโRepresentatives from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas who led the session were Gomer Gomez, BSP North Luzon Bank Officer II, and Dennis Gundran, Senior Research Specialist. Both speakers shared informative and practical insights on how fisherfolk can better manage their finances, embrace digital banking technologies, and avoid scams and counterfeit currency.
This initiative is part of BSP and BFARโs continued commitment to empowering fisherfolkโnot just through livelihood support, but also through inclusive education on financial wellness and resilience.
โโThe activity was held in partnership with the City Government of Laoag, through the City Agriculture Office headed by Engr. Sheila Marie Opelac.
