The BFAR-RFO1, in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sinait and the Paratong-Sabangan River Guardians Organization, successfully conducted a stock enhancement activity for freshwater prawn “ulang” in Sinait River on July 11, 2025.

โ€Žโ€ŽThis initiative is part of the ongoing implementation of the Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa Program, which aims to rehabilitate river system and enhance fisheries through conservation, protection, and repopulation of indigenous fish species in the region.

โ€Žโ€ŽThe activity was attended and witnessed by Honorable Mayor Glenn D. Guzman, together with staff from the Municipal Agriculture Office. Mayor Guzman expressed his appreciation for BFAR’s initiatives, “I can say that the BASIL project being implemented by BFAR – not only provides jobs and salaries, but will also give something that will have a greater impact not just for the present but for future generations – a sustainable source of livelihood. So let’s take care of it.”

โ€Žโ€ŽAs part of the program’s cash-for-work scheme, the Paratong-Sabangan River Guardians Organization received their incentive for conducting river cleaning activities.

โ€Žโ€ŽThe stock enhancement activity is expected to increase the prawn population, providing a sustainable source of livelihood for local fisherfolk and contributing to food security in the area.
